The story starts with a bang and the action is fast paced throughout. Though it’s a start of a new series, the book doesn’t waste too much time in introductions.

As more bodies are discovered in derelict homes across the Lake District, Beth knows there is a deranged serial killer on loose. As a young detective, Detective Beth Young is transferred to the major crimes team and her very first case involves a brutal killing & a body posed in a ritualistic manner – arms spread and graceful wings attached.

The Silent Dead is the first book in Detective Beth Young series and a solid police procedural.

I'm especially looking forward to seeing Beth grow in confidence and believe in herself and her ideas. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Beth and the rest of the team. I enjoyed getting to know Beth and the rest of FMIT. Graham built up the mystery with chapters from unknown perspectives which kept me guessing for a long time.

This is the first book I have read by this author. I think that Beth has quite a story to tell us and although we have heard some of it in this book I'm looking forward to hearing more of it. Beth spots connections long before others and this has got her a spot on FMIT. Beth is extremely bright and a lot of the time her brain works things out before she can articulate them in a way that everyone else can understand. This story follows Beth Young she has just joined FMIT. I love a good Detective novel and this one sounded too good to pass up. Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. Thank you, Graham Smith, Bookouture and Netgalley. It's always a joy to see that more and more female detectives become leading ladies. I am looking forward to getting to know Young Beth a lot better and I hope she will become a DI soon, leading her own team. It's not a fast paced story, but little by little the steady stream changes into a rapid one. I am fascinated by the way the story unravels and the work needed to complete the puzzle and to finally put the culprit behind bars. I love psychological thrillers, but I also like police procedurals. The way she acted was superb and would have suited the title of DI better.īut nevertheless, I really enjoyed the book. What stood out was that she was so young and new to the team but she was also the most mature and clever of the group.

The main character here is DC Beth Young. You have to get to know all the recurring characters and you have to concentrate on the story. The first book in a new series is always a bit of a challenge.
